How to pay for your application

How to pay the screening fee when the property asks the applicant to pay, and how consent works.

Some properties ask the applicant to pay the screening fee, and some pay it themselves. If the property is paying, you will not see a charge. See Whether you or the property pays the fee.

Steps

  1. Reach the payment step, which appears after your verification steps.
  2. Review the fee and what it covers before you pay.
  3. Enter your payment details and confirm.
  4. You receive an itemized receipt. See Understanding your itemized receipt.

Good to know

  • You are shown the amount and asked to consent before any charge is made.
  • The property sets the fee and decides who pays it. If you believe you were charged in error, contact the property first.
  • In some locations, the amount a property may charge for an application is capped by law, and a recent report may be reusable at no cost. See How to reuse a recent report and New York screening requirements.
