# How to create a unit

## Create a unit to represent a rental and generate the invite link applicants use to apply.

A unit represents one rental you are filling. Every screening is tied to a unit, and the unit holds the invite link applicants use to apply. Create one unit per rental.

**Before you begin**

You will need the rental address and the monthly rent. If you intend to apply specific screening criteria, you may also want a rule set ready. See *What a rule set is and how it works*.

**Steps**

1. From your dashboard, select `[Units]`.
2. Select `[Create unit]`.
3. Enter the unit details, including `[address, monthly rent, and any other required fields]`.
4. Attach a rule set, or create a new one. The rule set defines which checks are required and the screening fee. See *How to create a rule set*.
5. Save the unit.

Once the unit is saved, an invite link is generated at the unit level. Anyone who opens the link begins an application for that unit. See *Generating and sharing the invite link*.

**Notes**

- The invite link belongs to the unit, not to an individual applicant, so the same link can be shared with several prospective renters.
- To stop accepting applications, close the unit. See *How to close or archive a unit*.
